Being born and brought up and then being a
mom very much in India,I fail to understand how I became a brown parent;until
I stumbled upon my teenage daughter's new obsession of exploring YouTube videos
that had typecasted me as a brown
parent (Thanks to Superwoman).
The best part was yet to unfold….
My daughter and her buddies were
frantically on their cellphones and Lo!came the announcement.
Wow! We’ve got free tickets to the FanFest
2016.It rang no bells as YouTube videos ,Fan Fest were not a part of my
ecology at all !
I was
sucked into this quick sand to be an adult escort to my kid and her
under 15 friends, being the so called “Yo parent”! compared to other parents.
Finally the day arrived and I was
absolutely unaware that I would be an alien to a different time zone surrounded
by different species.
My kid and her friends amongst the most
sober and underexposed kids looked like the poor cousins to the hyper ecstatic
and hyperventilated kids dressed in the most erratic manner.( I was reprimanded
not to ogle)Focusing and straining to watch the YouTube stars being presented
outside the auditorium.
The heat and the crowd were no deterrent. Me
and some other brown escort parents looked
at each other giving a knowing smile and eyes full of sympathy for each
other.
The announcement of the arrival of
Superwoman lead to the loudest roar and jumps so high that a few Olympics, were
certainly ours at that moment (had they been measured).
The mass hysteria was so acute that I
entirely missed seeing this lady who had made me a brown parent in the brown
land itself.
What was to follow was magic !
As the entry began my poor kids got the
first hand experience of being squashed, tossed ,suffocated thankfully not been
trampled upon.Obediently and eagerly waiting for their limping escort to catch
up.Thus, giving us the privileged of almost last rows.As they occupied the
seats to my right, I glanced nervously to quality check the crowd in the rows
around them( As if I had a say!)
The ambience, sound effects lights were so
enthralling that I could sense my diaphragm, heart, intestine, spleen pound. Realising
later that it was the impact on my ear drums that was resonating all across.
As the performers kept coming, I yelled with
the crowd to infuse some excitement in my decent gang only to find them staring
at me.
“Aunty are you really enjoying? ”asked one
with apologetic eyes.
“Of course!’Did it seem like a cry of pain
or misery?I wondered.
A very handsome singer with the most
melodious voice, almost made me drool. Again causing the entire gang to blush. Hey
come on ! I am also young at heart …So WHAT? (I thought)
You can’t miss the finale of the super
exciting evening. The most subscribed and viewed “SUPERWOMAN”. The announcement
brought an unanimous cry so deafening and cheer so loud that my aged heart and
eardrums had to work overtime to keep themselves functional/sane.
The entire young crowd in a bat of an
eyelid was standing on the cushioned chairs (even my coy gang to my utter
amazement !). I contemplated doing the same but my hips, knees and ankles refused
to comply.
I
stood watching the backsides of all sizes, low waists and high hemlines, then
trying to find gaps to get a glimpse of the stage. I moved into the aisle but a
huge giant camera on tracks blocked my path. Wow! never seen so much grandeur.
Honestly I did not see even an inch of the
woman. But I have to admit that she was entertaining to the hilt.
My parental observation was …
Guys,we have super rebel kids who may not
know what they want, but definitely know what they do not want. They are fearless,in
bringing their experiments out in the public and there’s an audience for that
niche too. So the stage is …where one begins to perform.
The medium, the audience, the ambience and
aura was like being on a different planet. Where everyone and everything is
welcomed with an open mind.
But a kind reminder to my brown child-it
was this tolerant brown parent who escorted you to the memorable evening that
we all shall cherish for life.
''Long live the Superwoman and Kudos to
FanFest 2016''
