2nd wave is here.
Lol!
No not Corona, but being a teenager’s mom.
The 1st time I had to cope up with knowing the bios
of ONE DIRECTION group. I was then type casted as a Brown parent. Smirked upon,
however I successfully survived it
The 2nd wave (more obstinate and forceful) has pushed me to the Far East. I have to now hone my skills of making sushi, kimchi, boba and more.
My “Teenager’s mom orientation program” began a year back (the
tutors are normally the teenagers themselves). I am still trying my best to differentiate
between these flawless fair skinned, coloured haired , lip
gloss(Sorry ,I stand corrected ..Lip balm )applied guys or the wafer thin ,silken
pokey haired well-dressed girls .Their group interaction videos worried me of
their orientation. Only to be rudely reminded that this is how Asians behave.
Alas! I was suddenly jolted from my pseudo western brown
parent status to be reminded of my asian roots.
K Pop, K Drama’s are now a part of our ecosystem. I have
made my child proud by being an avid K Drama
binge watcher. Since, I watch these on mute (to avoid upsetting the rock-solid
Indian Papa bear that never got swept by any of these waves) the only word I caught
upon is “saranghe” with the last 2 fingers crossed. I am now a K pop random
dancer in my own free style.
At the dinner table I tried having a Sushi with kimchi topping, almost causing my hysteric child to faint. “How can you mix a Japanese dish with Korean one? “I was reprimanded.
I thought to myself ’Well, we Indianized
the French, Mexican, Chinese and many more cuisines to suit our taste buds.
Chill!!
The one hand manovering of chopsticks training has resulted
in many a thalaiva actions, but I failed miserably.
All my sincere efforts do not seem to amuse the brand new teenager to be. Gotta give her the space to go wild and remind my sluggish heart and actions that...
'Hang on ! this too shall pass.’
Psst ! my tenure begins from May😉
.Wish me luck.
