Owning acr
Owning acres of land along the banks of Kaveri was an asset that anyone would trade for any riches .
Almost 4 generations of Damodar and his brother kashinath resided here with their extended families .The efforts of this family reflected in the returns that the plantations were fetching .Yet, this family was full of humility ,generosity and lived a very simple life.
The family was reasonably well off .The young generation could now spare some time to improvisation of plantation techniques ,explore their artistic inclinations .Damodar and kashinath conceptualized and designed beautiful buildings along the banks ,thus making them the envy of not just their villagers but also people from distant lands.
All the kids in the family grew up in abundance of resources ,love and care of elders and seeing the brave ventures of their parents. Damodar the dreamer was always curious to understand and explore more than what was there to see.
He due to his outgoing nature befriended a traveller Raghu. Raghu had travelled extensively and shared fabulous travel stories of India and abroad. He shared stories that made Damodar aware of avenues never explored or seen before.
Of exploring business opportunities like having a tea stall, with refreshments with a novel boat ride .Only day long harmless activities he lured Damodar.
It was an uphill task for Damodar to convince his family. Kashinath tried to reason but relented to Damodar’s persistence. Raghu was the person who would be exploring this on Damodar’s land at no cost. This barter was agreed upon as it was a big business risk for Raghu .
Slowly the business picked up and the business needs expanded. A restaurant, a restroom….and so on. Raghu offered his resourses by getting people known to him to meet the business needs.
Damodar’ s family moved a little away from the commercial site . There are still acres of land with us Damodar convinced his family. The new influx of visitor’s brought money and opportunities, his own son returned with a sound education and came back with fresh ideas to take the development ahead .
He was amazed to see the mushrooming of small establishments that his father had accommodated out of kindness and being tricked for his simplicity. Damodar’s son was unhappy with the scenario and decided to revamp.
What unfolded was unbelievable!!!
Raghu and his associates ganged up and questioned the right Damodar’s son had .They pointed that this place now accounted to being a cultural and travel destination- thanks to their efforts .Their talent ,risk taking and capabilities had brought the change which were irreversible.
It did not end here they filed litigation against the family as traitors to development and challenged their right to the land and proposed that they should be driven from the location as their measly plantations interfered with the growth and development and huge opportunities to many.
ALAS! Where had a small act of kindness landed Damodar and his family today.
Can this story be extrapolated to the plight of the locals of the financial capital of India ..and elsewhere…..
Situations like these force the moderates to take radical views like Damodar’s son and his siblings .
